Luminox watches

Luminox (a combination of the Latin words Lumi = light and Nox = night) has since its foundation in 1989 been producing watches that perform under all circumstances. The brand became well known for their Luminox Navy Seal series. The Luminox technology (LLT) makes it possible to read the time, regardless of the light level, even in complete darkness! This makes Luminox watches an essential tool for the world's best trained elite troups and outdoor enthousiasts alike.

The history of Luminox watches

For the past twenty five years Luminox watches have been adopted by many elite military and law enforcement units that consider their Luminox watch as their own personal standard equipment or ‘Essential Gear’. The unique Luminox lighting system guarantees continuous visibility for up to 25 years without having to push a button or expose the watch to a light source.

In 1989 Barry Cohen, a watch industry veteran and Richard Timbo partnered up to create a unique brand of watches with a  self-powered illumination system. At first the aim was to create high-performance sports watches with excellent visibility and readability in low or no light situations. But it wasn’t until 1993 when the Navy SEAls approached the brand to develop a watch especially for them that the brand became world famous.

Following the success of the Navy SEALs watch in 1999, Luminox was approached by US Air Force pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk fighter jet for whom Luminox developed a special watch in collaboration with aviation manufacturers Lockheed Martin.

The range of durable and ‘Always visible’ Luminox watches kept growing and reached a peak in In 2013 when Luminox launched a line of watches designed for use in space with the input from test pilots and astronauts from XCOR Space Expeditions.

Luminox watch series

The Luminox watch collection is divided into four series: LAND, SEA, AIR and SPACE.

Luminox Land watches

The analog watches from the Recon series can also be used as simple and efficient navigation tools on the ground, making them the ideal watch for military personnel. The Field Series is a series of Day Date, Chronograph Alarm and Automatic watches with a vintage- styling and rugged appeal backed by modern functionality.

Luminox Sea watches

In 2009 the Navy SEALs approached Luminox, and the watch which was developed especially for this special ops unit, was the only model to pass all their stringent tests. The ensuing collaboration  resulted in A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) watches for new graduates of their training program.

Luminox Air watches

The watches of the Luminox AIR series pay tribute to some of the most remarkable strategic aviation history with aircraft-inspired details. The Air collection includes models such as the F-117 Nighthawk, F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II and the vintage inspired P-38 Lightning and was developed under official and exclusive worldwide license with Lockheed Martin.

Luminox Space watches

The Luminox Space watches are developed with input from test pilots and astronauts of XCOR Space Expeditions (formerly known as SXC). Starting in 2013, Luminox and XCOR have the future in sight, both committing to passenger space flights.

Brand ambassadors and collaborations

Besides collaborations with military and law enforcement organizations and XCOR Space Expeditions, Luminox has worked closely with experts such as counter terrorism operative and underwater explorer Scott Cassell and Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan. These collaborations often result in special or limited edition gift sets in a special air- and watertight Luminox case with lots of extra goodies.
