Seiko Presage SPB527J1 Presage Classic Series 'Ai-iro' Watch

The watches in the Seiko Presage Classic Open heart series have richly textured, curved dials inspired by the soft and supple feel of natural textiles whose use is interwoven into Japan’s culture. The series features two different dial configurations and sets of functions. With their curvature and intricately textured patterns, the dials capture and reflect ambient light to create a heightened sense of depth and beauty. The tops of the indexes curve to conform with the dial’ s rounded shape, and the minute and seconds hands bend gently toward the markers. A newly developed multi-row bracelet with design inspiration from the 1970s provides a delicate and comfortable feeling on the wrist. This latest addition to the popular watch series is this watch named ‘Ai-iro’ for its indigo dial. Indigo was a colour loved during Japan’s Edo period between 1603 and 1868, as it was considered as ‘lucky to the Samurai, During the Meiji era (1868 to 1912), when Japan was opening to the West, towns would cover themselves in the colour, which lead to foreigners visiting for the first time started to name it ‘Japan Blue.’ The series’ colour palette also includes shiro-iro, the color of unbleached natural fabric, which inspires two dials in the collection; sensai-cha, a subdued greenish-brown that was fashionable during the Edo Period; arai-gaki, a washed and bleached persimmon color; and sumi-iro, a greyish black originally used in garments worn by monks.

This Seiko watch has a case made of stainless steel with a diameter of 40.2 mm and is fitted with a stainless steel band. Inside the case lies a Seiko Instruments Inc. movement and the watch features a Sapphire crystal.
