The Swiss watch brand Tissot produces, in addition to classic ladies' and men's watches, modern - exceptionally precise - chronographs and touchscreen sports watches that are loved all over the world. It is not for nothing that Tissot is a partner and official timekeeper at various sports like MotoGP and the world championships cycling, fencing, basketball and ice hockey.

In addition to their extensive collection of classic watches, Tissot is also famous for its many innovations. In 1853 the brand introduced the first mass-produced pocket watch and the first pocket watch with two time zones. Tissot was also the first watch manufacturer to make watches from plastic (which would later form the basis for Swatch watches), stone, mother-of-pearl and wood.
In 1999, Tissot introduced its first touchscreen T-Touch watch. Watches with this technology have a touch-sensitive sapphire glass to control the various functions, such as compasses, barometer, altimeter and thermometer. The T-Touch series is still part of the current Tissot watch collection.
Tissot was founded in 1853 by a mechanic of gold watch cases named Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile Tissot. The company is located in the center of Le Locle in Switzerland.
Tissot was set up as a comptoir d'établissage, a network of independent craftsmen who are highly specialized in producing watch parts. The watches were then assembled and sold from the comptoir. At that time all Tissot watches were pocket watches, watch hangers or manufacture watches, mainly produced for the American market.
From 1917, the company started production of blank timepieces, which resulted in a merger with Omega in 1930. They therefore formed the first Swiss watch association: the SSIH (Société Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogère).
During the economic crisis of the 1970s, which hit the Swiss watch industry hard, a new threat came with the arrival and popularity of Asian quartz watches. Nicolas G. Hayek ensured that the SSIH (of which Tissot was a part) and ASUAG merged. This merger in 1983 formed the basis from which the Swatch Group was founded in 1998.
Today, the Swatch Group is the largest watchmaker and distributor in the world and still based in Le Locle, Switzerland. It is therefore not surprising that one of the most sold Tissot watches is called LeLocle.
Tissot watches have always been popular among artists, actors and athletes. The watches were worn by actress Sarah Bernhardt, Carmen Miranda, Grace Kelly and James Stewart (in the Hitchcockfilm Rear Window). Tissot T-Touch watches were worn by Angelina Jolie in the movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Not surprisingly, the brand has had many famous ambassadors. Among them drivers such as Jorge Lorenzo and Thomas Lüthi, basketball player Tony Parker and several famous actors and actresses.
